Voyageurs lose a tight game vs Rustlers
Lac La Biche - Voyageurs and Lakeland Rustlers battled the smoke and each other in a very fast paced game on a Thursday night. The ACAC teams don't get to experience night games very often but to have one and even on a thursday made it very special. We caught up to Voayegurs Head Coach Macky Singh on Friday to ask him about last nights game.
Q. Men played very well, particularly in the first half. Seemed like they were pushing the play more than Lakeland. Fair to say as well?
"Yeah, I thought the game was very even. We definitely took a lot of things that we worked on over the week, especially from the things that we saw against NAIT last weekend and tried to put in the game yesterday. Obviously…both teams were very even but a couple of mistakes cost us but this is something we're learning through as well. You know, this is a brand new program, brand new players, players are still sort of figuring it out, how to play the game kind of thing. So I think they've really improved. Particularly, where we need to work on is just keep focusing on what we're doing kind of thing. You know, if you look at it, the start of the second half we were actually the best period of the entire game for about a good 15-odd minutes before we let a goal in. That's something we talked about at half time, how I wanted to change the way we play and we did that. And then I think the moment of excitement got to them and they saw a lot of success out of that. They forgot about the other stuff that we worked on and then that cost us a bit of a game but hopefully we learn from that and go forward with that."
Q. Feel that the players' confidence is building?
"I think so. You know, I think they can see…I know they were a lot more disappointed yesterday that we didn't at least get a result out of it but I think they also can see areas that we've improved on and developed but also that there's areas that we kind of need to work on, particularly the mental side of the game kind of thing, to really focus on how we continue playing."
